Spiti Valley, literally meaning the land between the magnificent India & majestical Tibet. This place is the epitome of magic. From beautiful landscape to a rich culture heritage- there is nothing you cannot find here! Seperated from Lahaul Valley by the soaring Kunzum La at 4551m, Spiti valley is a must visit destination in the months of October, November & December.

Spiti Valley is a cold desert mountain valley located high in the Himalayas in the north-eastern part of Himachal Pradesh. The name “Spiti” means “The Middle Land”, i.e. the land between Tibet and India. Winters in Spiti are extremely harsh and temperatures sometimes drop to as low as -20º Celsius. Winters here are frigid and there is no running water in taps. All that Spiti has in winters is the never-ending adventure and a white blanket of snow!  

Known for its rugged terrain, a trip during Winter gets a lot trickier. During this journey we cover regions in Kinnaur Valley, visit the famous Kalpa town and several known places of Spiti Valley, like Kaza, Kee , Kibber, Langza.

NOTE: Access to high altitude regions of Spiti Valley, especially Hikkim, Komik, Langza Village and Pin Valley etc may be blocked during winter months due to excessive snowfall. Hence, the visit to these locations is weather dependent. In such a case, we will look for the best possible alternatives, as feasible.

NOTE: Travellers residing outside Delhi are suggested to book trains/flights reaching Delhi not later than 4 PM on the trip start date. Similarly, on trip end date, book returning flight/trains leaving post 2 PM.

Itinerary

DAY 1: MUMBAI TO CHANDIGARH

  • 11:00 AM- Meet and Greet at Bandra Terminus Railway Station and Proceed your journey towards Chandigarh by Paschim Express.
  • Spend your whole day in Train playing games & breaking the Ice with your fellow travellers.

DAY 2: REACH CHANDIGARH AND LEAVE FOR SHIMLA (120 KMS, 6 HRS)

  • 04:00 PM- Reach Chandigarh and we're all set to start our amazing roadtrip towards our first destination- Shimla!
  • 11:00 PM- Reach Shimla, have dinner and check in to hotel. Take proper rest for the night as our upcoming days are going to be full of adventure and fun.

DAY 3- SHIMLA TO KALPA (250 KMS, 11 HRS)

  • Today, we start our day early and drive through the Indo-Tibet Highway for Kalpa, a small village in Kinnaur District famous for its Apple orchards & magnificent views of Kinner Kailash.
  • Reach Kalpa by evening, Dinner and chill - play some games, listen to music!

DAY 4: KALPA – SUICIDE POINT, DRIVE TO TABO (200KMS, 7 HOURS)

  • Today, the first thing we do is visit the Beautiful Suicide Point in Kalpa to click some cliché photos for our Instagram feed :p
  • Have Breakfast and leave for Tabo- the most beautiful hamlet in Spiti.
  • On the way we take a small halt at Khab, the confluence of Spiti & Sutlej Rivers which you will be easily able to differentiate the color of.
  • Evening reach Tabo, have dinner and rest.

DAY 5: TABO TO KAZA VIA DHANKAR MONASTERY  (80 KMS, 3 HOURS)

  • Checkout after Breakfast & Explore Tabo Monastery which is one of the Oldest Monasteries of Spiti.
  • Next, we head towards Dhankar Monastery. One of the Beautiful Monasteries of Spiti surrounded by Mountains.
  • After Dhankar, we proceed for our final destination of the day- Kaza, the administrative capital and largest town of Spiti, our Home for Next 2 Days.

DAY 6: LANGZA – HIKKIM – KOMIC – KAZA MARKET

  • Today, after Breakfast leave to visit some Best places around Spiti.
  • We explore the Best of Spiti Valley, starting from Hikkim village, which hosts the world’s highest post office at an altitude of 14,567 Ft. Collect and send handwritten postcards to your loved ones from here!
  • Our next stop will be the village of Langza, known for its fossils. You can find prehistoric fossil remains here if you’re lucky.
  • Visit the famous massive Buddha Statue here & then leave back for Kaza and visit the local Market for Shopping and exploring some really nice cafes.
  • Back to stay for Dinner.

DAY 7: KEY MONASTERY – CHICCHAM BRIDGE – NAKO (150 KMS, 6 HOURS)

  • Today we wake up early and checkout. Start your day by visiting Key Monastery situated at the height of 13,668 Ft. You can have great conversations with the monks here :D
  • We now visit Chicham Bridge - the World's highest bridge from sea level at 13,244Ft. It's one of the most spectacular bridges in the world & is situated above a deep gorge about 1000 feet high.
  • After lunch, head back to Nako Village.
  • Reach Nako by Evening & Explore the amazing Nako Monastery and Nako Lake.

DAY 8: NAKO TO NARKANDA (250 KMS, 8 HOURS)

  • Wake up, say bye bye to one of the Best Valleys you ever came across and leave for yet another mesmerising place – Narkanda <3
  • Reach Narkanda in the evening and let this Night have no end since this will be your Last Night in the Mountains :’)
  • We will make sure we enjoy the most of it!

DAY 9: NARKANDA – TO AMBALA CANTT RAILWAY (200KMS, 7 HOURS)

  • We checkout and visit Hatu Peak which is the highest peak in Shimla.
  • Scenic beauty of the Shivalik Hills can be enjoyed on the steep road to Hatu Peak.
  • Now we leave for Ambala Cantt railway station to catch our Train back to Mumbai.
  • On the way we can visit Shimla Mall Road depending upon the availability of time.
  • 11:00pm – Catch Golden Temple Exp back to Mumbai.

DAY 10: UNTIL NEXT TIME :(

  • Spend your whole day in Train Journey playing games, sharing photos and being in trip nostalgia :')
  • 10:45 PM- Reach Borivali & 11:45- Mumbai Central) with unforgettable memories of Trekkers Tribe, promising of staying in touch and planning to go for more trips together.

Cancellation Policy

If the participant does not reach the meeting point / pickup point on time, he/she will be considered as dropout and no refund will be provided in such case.

In case of cancellation done in advance following parameters apply.

  • 80% will be refunded if cancelled 45 days in advance.
  • 75% will be refunded if cancelled 30 days in advance.
  • 50% will be refunded if cancelled 20 days in advance.
  • 25% will be refunded if cancelled 10 days in advance.
  • 0% refund if cancelled within 72 hours of the event date and time

Disclaimer : The participants who wish to reach the event starting point in their own vehicle have to reach the meeting point at given time, post that organisers may go out of network range and wont be able to assist. In such situation the organiser shall not be liable for any inconvenience what-so-ever and the participants will be considered as dropouts against which no refund will be made. The organiser reserves the right to make necessary change in itinerary at any time before or during the event based on situation at hand. Trek leaders decision will be final and binding, no arguments will be entertained. During the event if any participant or group does not follow safety instructions and indulges in acts that lead to physical harm, or gets lost in the forest / mountain the organisers will not be held liable for it. Tickets can be cancelled 7 days prior to the event and 90% amount will be refunded. No refund will be made in case a person misses the train/bus mentioned in the itinerary. All participants are deemed to be physically fit for the event. In case a participant decides to dropout during the event he/she has to bear the extra cost of arranging his/her return. This cost will be charged at-actual-basis. If the event gets cancelled due to natural calamities, rains, landslide, snowfall, avalanche only 50% refund will be made. Stay options mentioned in the itinerary are subject to natural conditions i.e tents cant be pitched if rains and/or rain storm is being predicted. In such cases an attempt will me made to provide shelter for the night. Food during the trekking and camping events is sourced locally from villages and we put in our best efforts to provide the best, participants should acknowledge the fact that remote village people are not trained for catering services and our expectations should be accommodating. Sahyadri Rangers has a reputation of providing memorable experience for trekkers and adventure lovers our events are not deigned for tourists or fussy people. Trekking and camping belong to Adventure Sports industry where the participants are part of a "team", there are no waiters, caterers, guests/clients.


FAQs

Q. What will be the group size?

  • Usually, we take maximum of 15-18 people in one group. We believe bigger groups have less fun and less coordination so that’s why we prefer smaller groups.
  • We need at least 6 people to operate our fixed departure tours/treks.

Q. Who all will go along with us on the trip/trek?

  • All our treks are led by professional trek leaders who are certified, mountaineers. Apart from them, there will be one local guide, cook, helper, porters and other staff.
  • All our trips are led by professional trip coordinators who have a good experience in leading groups.

Q. I am the only girl in the group, is it safe to travel/trek solo?

  • Yes definitely it is, the safety of girls is most important for us. All our guides and other staff are carefully chosen for trips/treks. They are honest and reliable but we also advise you to take care of your personal belongings.

Q. What are the things that we need to carry on the trek/trip?

  • Once you confirm the trip/trek and done with the booking, we will send you the packing list according to the trip/trek.

Q. What type of ground transportation will be used on the trip?

  • We hire taxis such as Innova, Tempo Traveller, Bolero, Tata Sumo, etc. from our vendors.

Q. I cannot carry my rucksack/bag on the trek, can I offload it?

  • We always recommend that you carry your rucksack during the trek because it helps in maintaining your body posture. In case if you cannot, then we can provide you a mule/porter to carry your rucksack. You will have to tell us at least 1 week before the trek. The charges for offloading would be INR 300 per person per day.

Q. Which shoes should I buy?

  • Shoes are your lifeline on the trek. It is highly advisable to buy trekking shoes of a good and known brand. You can consider companies like Quechua, Columbia, etc. A waterproof shoes with ankle support will work good.

Q. What will be the type of accommodation?

  • It depends on the tour. If it is a trek then you will be staying in dome tents or if it is a road trip the the accommodation can be in hotel/alpine tent/dome tent/home stay.

Q. How to get safe drinking water on the trip?

  • Himalayan water is considered the purest water and safe to drink. But for safety purpose, we sometimes boil the water and then use it for drinking and cooking.
  • In case you find any clean water on the trek, always fill your water where the water is running not where the water is stable or is in rest.

Q. Can we change the itinerary?

  • Yes, you can give suggestions. We will look into that and if we find it feasible then we will apply it.

Q. Can you customize the trip/trek?

  • Yes, we can customize any trip/trek as per your needs and as per the feasibility.

Q. Will doctor accompany us on the trek?

  • No, but our trek leaders are certified in Wildlife First Aid course and they always carry first aid kit and oxygen cylinders on high altitude treks.

Q. Do you prefer I should bring some medicines with me?

  • Yes it is advisable that you carry your own medication on the trek.

Q. Diamox is advisable or not?

  • Well, it totally depends on person to person. Usually, there are no side effects of Diamox but if you are having any prior medical conditions then it is better to consult your doctor.
  • Our itinerary is designed in a way that we take sufficient time to get acclimatized. In case if you are having problem on the trek then tell your trek leader about your condition as soon as possible.

Q. Can I take my child along on this trek? What is the age limit?

  • It depends on the difficulty level of the trek. Minimum age for eligibility is 14 years.

Q. What will we do if it rains?

  • If it starts raining slowly while trekking then we will continue our trek as per the plan. Your poncho will keep you dry. In case if it is raining heavily then we will try to find any shelter and wait for the rain to stop or slow. If it rains at the campsite then there would not be any problem because all our living tents, kitchen tents and toilet tents are waterproof. You will stay dry inside.

Q. Why is the trekking pole necessary?

  • Differs from person to person. If you think that it would help you maintaining balance while trekking then do bring the pole. Some people think that trekking pole disturbs the walking rhythm. So it’s upto you.
